Kids love scavenger hunts and collecting. Collecting “things” is a common interest in most kids ages 5-7, but this activity is great for just about any age, as long as you can hold a crayon.
Here’s what you’ll need
- dish soap
- small bowl
- scrub brush or toothbrush
- washable paint - these Crayola ones are perfect
- stickers, glitter, sequins, or other embellishments
- Modpodge or any spray adhesive
Step 1: Go for a walk - Take a stroll around your neighborhood and look for your canvases, aka “rocks”. You can pick any size or shape. Our rule, pick up only as many as you can carry.
Step 2: Clean the rocks - draw a “bath” for your rocks using warm water and 1 teaspoon of dish soap. Place a small hand towel next to the bath. Let your littles wash and scrub the rocks with a scrub brush or toothbrush. Once cleaned, rise and layout on the towel to dry.
Step 3: Paint! - this part requires washable paint and lots of patience. (WARNING: This will be messy!) Decorate your rocks as you please and once completely dry, cover them with adhesive or mod podge to seal in your artwork.
Step 4: Share the love - now is the fun part! Give your Love Rocks to family or friends, leave on neighbors’ doorsteps or planters, or take a stroll back through your neighborhood and place them around for other people to see.
